Plant 4,550 native trees around the Unity canal in Baton Rouge
A neighborhood-led restoration of the Unity canal needs $2,250 for saplings and equipment.

The Unity canal has been used as an informal dump for years. This September, 40 neighbors turned up for a first cleanup, filling 85 bags in a single morning. Now we want to restore it for good.
We have a plan agreed with the city parks department, including native species selected by a local botanist.
The area floods more each year, and fish have returned for the first time in a decade after our first cleanup. Restoring it will protect homes and bring back shade.
All the labor is volunteered. We just need materials.
We'll post planting day photos and a count of every sapling planted.
Where the $2,250 goes:
• Native saplings and stakes: $1,150
• Tools and protective gear: $500
• Waste removal and skip hire: $390
• Signage and educational materials: $210
I'll pay this kindness forward the moment I'm able to.

Thinking of you and your family. Projects like this are what make a place worth living in. Put this on a community board in Nice this morning. God bless.
Sending love. Great idea, hope you get there. I hope December is when things finally get easier
Hope the build day goes well, wish I lived closer. Greetings from Feira de Santana.
Wishing you the best, Deborah. It takes guts to ask. Well done. Love from Thessaloniki.
You're not alone. I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier. This is the second need I've supported on here and the first that made me cry. Thinking of Baton Rouge.
