Union Beach has been used as an informal dump for years. This July, 91 neighbors turned up for a first cleanup, filling 162 bags in a single morning. Now we want to restore it for good. We have a plan agreed with the city parks department, including native species selected by a local botanist. The area floods more each year, and fish have returned for the first time in a decade after our first cleanup. Restoring it will protect homes and bring back shade. All the labor is volunteered. We just need materials. Funds buy saplings, gloves, bags, hire of a skip, and signage. Where the $300 goes: • Native saplings and stakes: $115 • Tools and protective gear: $60 • Waste removal and skip hire: $110 • Signage and educational materials: $15 Whatever you can give, even just sharing this page, means a lot.

  • keep going. Gave what I could, wish it was more. After 15 years in farming I know how hard it is to ask for anything. God bless.

    • Thanks for sharing this. Projects like this are what make a place worth living in. We had a similar scare last year, I know what it feels like. Greetings from Rockford.
