Plant 4,150 native trees around the Pioneer wetland in Kampala
A neighborhood-led restoration of the Pioneer wetland needs $300 for saplings and equipment.
Anywhere in the world1,424 views
The Pioneer wetland has been used as an informal dump for years. This August, 78 neighbors turned up for a first cleanup, filling 195 bags in a single morning. Now we want to restore it for good.
We have a plan agreed with the district council, including native species selected by a local botanist.
The area floods more each year, and fish have returned for the first time in a decade after our first cleanup. Restoring it will protect homes and bring back shade.
All the labor is volunteered. We just need materials.
We'll post planting day photos and a count of every sapling planted.
Where the $300 goes:
• Native saplings and stakes: $185
• Signage and educational materials: $25
• Waste removal and skip hire: $90
Glad we found this place.

Shared this with my family. Sent it to 29 people at work. God bless.
Rooting for you. I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier. I have a 8 year old who wants to send good wishes too. Love from Thrissur.
