Plant 3,900 native trees around Jacaranda Creek in Messina
Volunteers are restoring Jacaranda Creek in Messina; $1,700 covers saplings, tools and waste removal.
🇮🇹 Italy889 views
Jacaranda Creek has been used as an informal dump for years. This September, 57 neighbors turned up for a first cleanup, filling 121 bags in a single morning. Now we want to restore it for good.
We have a plan agreed with the city parks department, including native species selected by a local botanist.
The area floods more each year, and fish have returned for the first time in a decade after our first cleanup. Restoring it will protect homes and bring back shade.
All the labor is volunteered. We just need materials.
We'll post planting day photos and a count of every sapling planted.
Where the $1,700 goes:
• Native saplings and stakes: $630
• Tools and protective gear: $310
• Waste removal and skip hire: $670
• Signage and educational materials: $90
Every share and every dollar helps.

You're not alone. More neighborhoods should do this. Don't lose heart. A few weeks ago I was in a hole too and it changed faster than I expected. Love from Jakarta Selatan
Best of luck, Greta. More neighborhoods should do this
