Plant 3,600 native trees around the Jacaranda canal in Kisumu
A neighborhood-led restoration of the Jacaranda canal needs $350 for saplings and equipment.

The Jacaranda canal has been used as an informal dump for years. This February, 68 neighbors turned up for a first cleanup, filling 187 bags in a single morning. Now we want to restore it for good.
We have a plan agreed with the local forestry office, including native species selected by a local botanist.
The area floods more each year, and fish have returned for the first time in a decade after our first cleanup. Restoring it will protect homes and bring back shade.
All the labor is volunteered. We just need materials.
We'll post planting day photos and a count of every sapling planted.
Where the $350 goes:
• Waste removal and skip hire: $60
• Native saplings and stakes: $250
• Signage and educational materials: $40
I'll keep this page updated with receipts as things happen.

can I help in a way that isn't money? I'm near Kisumu.
Sharing the link is the biggest thing. And if you know anything about waste removal and skip hire, advice is welcome too.
Thinking of you and your family, James. Projects like this are what make a place worth living in. Sent it to 19 people at work.
