Plant 3,450 native trees around Union Beach in Auckland
Volunteers are restoring Union Beach in Auckland; $1,700 covers saplings, tools and waste removal.
🇳🇿 New Zealand490 views
Union Beach has been used as an informal dump for years. This August, 61 neighbors turned up for a first cleanup, filling 126 bags in a single morning. Now we want to restore it for good.
We have a plan agreed with the municipal water board, including native species selected by a local botanist.
The area floods more each year, and fish have returned for the first time in a decade after our first cleanup. Restoring it will protect homes and bring back shade.
All the labor is volunteered. We just need materials.
We'll post planting day photos and a count of every sapling planted.
Where the $1,700 goes:
• Native saplings and stakes: $560
• Tools and protective gear: $490
• Waste removal and skip hire: $430
• Signage and educational materials: $220
I'll pay this kindness forward the moment I'm able to.

is there anything that isn't money that would help Marama?
Thank you. If you're in Auckland I'll say if something practical comes up. For now sharing this is great. Fair thing to want to know.
you're not alone. It takes guts to ask. Well done. Wish I lived closer to Buffalo so I could bring a meal

Hang in there, Marama. Reading this made my day a bit heavier but I'm glad I did. All the best.
Best of luck. Shared it with a few friends. My daughter saw me on my phone and now she wants to give her pocket money. Blessings.

Rooting for you. This could happen to any of us. After 6 years in accounting I know how hard it's to ask for anything. Love from Mohammedia!
