Plant 3,050 native trees around the Acacia wetland in Petrópolis
A neighborhood-led restoration of the Acacia wetland needs $600 for saplings and equipment.
🇧🇷 Petrópolis, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil2,173 views
The Acacia wetland has been used as an informal dump for years. This September, 97 neighbors turned up for a first cleanup, filling 184 bags in a single morning. Now we want to restore it for good.
We have a plan agreed with the city parks department, including native species selected by a local botanist.
The area floods more each year, and fish have returned for the first time in a decade after our first cleanup. Restoring it will protect homes and bring back shade.
All the labor is volunteered. We just need materials.
We'll post planting day photos and a count of every sapling planted.
Where the $600 goes:
• Signage and educational materials: $65
• Tools and protective gear: $60
• Native saplings and stakes: $475
Every share and every dollar helps.

take care, Luiz. Hope you get there. This is the second need I've supported on here and the first that made me cry. Thinking of Petrópolis.
you're not alone, Luiz. It takes guts to ask. Well done. I'm in hospitality myself and wanted you to know we're cheering for you. All the best
