Plant 2,850 native trees around Unity Beach in Hialeah
A neighborhood-led restoration of Unity Beach needs $1,900 for saplings and equipment.
🇺🇸 Hialeah, Florida, United States1,668 views
Unity Beach has been used as an informal dump for years. This June, 46 neighbors turned up for a first cleanup, filling 143 bags in a single morning. Now we want to restore it for good.
We have a plan agreed with the local forestry office, including native species selected by a local botanist.
The area floods more each year, and fish have returned for the first time in a decade after our first cleanup. Restoring it will protect homes and bring back shade.
All the labor is volunteered. We just need materials.
Funds buy saplings, gloves, bags, hire of a skip, and signage.
Where the $1,900 goes:
• Waste removal and skip hire: $820
• Native saplings and stakes: $580
• Tools and protective gear: $500
Thank you so much.

Updates from Mariana
Thank you all. We're at 81% now ($1,542). I'm honestly stunned. we've booked the dates and paid the deposit.
Good news. Because of your gifts ($633 in total) I met with the nursery and confirmed the amounts. Still a way to go but it feels less lonely.

Sending good thoughts, Mariana. More neighborhoods should do this. My neighbor in Xalapa donated after I showed her your page

Thinking of you and your family, Mariana. Reading this made my day a bit heavier but I'm glad I did. I have a 5 year old who wants to send good wishes too. Take care.
