Setagaya
The Unity hillside has been used as an informal dump for years. This August, 48 neighbors turned up for a first cleanup, filling 117 bags in a single morning. Now we want to restore it for good. We have a plan agreed with the municipal water board, including native species selected by a local botanist. The area floods more each year, and fish have returned for the first time in a decade after our first cleanup. Restoring it will protect homes and bring back shade. All the labor is volunteered. We just need materials. We'll post planting day photos and a count of every sapling planted. Where the $1,250 goes: • Tools and protective gear: $310 • Native saplings and stakes: $800 • Signage and educational materials: $140 I'll pay this kindness forward the moment I'm able to. - Sachiko

  • is there a list of costs somewhere? Just curious how it adds up for Sachiko.

Tools and protective gear is $310 of it. Everything else is listed in the story and nothing outside that list comes out of this page. It helps to be asked.

        • Sending strength, Sachiko. Projects like this are what make a place worth living in. Don't be hard on yourself for asking.

          • Wishing you peace, Sachiko. More neighborhoods should do this. Love from Jakarta
