Plant 2,500 native trees around the Unity riverbank in Gqeberha
A neighborhood-led restoration of the Unity riverbank needs $350 for saplings and equipment.
🇿🇦 South Africa1,023 views
The Unity riverbank has been used as an informal dump for years. This August, 59 neighbors turned up for a first cleanup, filling 193 bags in a single morning. Now we want to restore it for good.
We have a plan agreed with the local forestry office, including native species selected by a local botanist.
The area floods more each year, and fish have returned for the first time in a decade after our first cleanup. Restoring it will protect homes and bring back shade.
All the labor is volunteered. We just need materials.
We'll post planting day photos and a count of every sapling planted.
Where the $350 goes:
• Signage and educational materials: $35
• Tools and protective gear: $175
• Native saplings and stakes: $140
Every share and every dollar helps.

Good luck. Hope the build day goes well, wish I lived closer. My late mom used to say help given quietly counts double. God bless
Sending good thoughts, Bongani. Hope you get there.
