Plant 2,250 native trees around the Cedar canal in Embakasi
A neighborhood-led restoration of the Cedar canal needs $350 for saplings and equipment.
🇰🇪 Embakasi, Nairobi, Kenya1,102 views
The Cedar canal has been used as an informal dump for years. This January, 89 neighbors turned up for a first cleanup, filling 192 bags in a single morning. Now we want to restore it for good.
We have a plan agreed with the city parks department, including native species selected by a local botanist.
The area floods more each year, and fish have returned for the first time in a decade after our first cleanup. Restoring it will protect homes and bring back shade.
All the labor is volunteered. We just need materials.
We'll post planting day photos and a count of every sapling planted.
Where the $350 goes:
• Native saplings and stakes: $120
• Tools and protective gear: $120
• Waste removal and skip hire: $90
• Signage and educational materials: $20

Good luck, Faith. Shared this with my family. I have a 16 year old who wants to send good wishes too. Greetings from Glendale.
Praying for you, Faith. It takes guts to ask. Well done
