Plant 2,100 native trees around the Union riverbank in Austin
A neighborhood-led restoration of the Union riverbank needs $2,850 for saplings and equipment.
🇺🇸 United States1,393 views
The Union riverbank has been used as an informal dump for years. This June, 119 neighbors turned up for a first cleanup, filling 132 bags in a single morning. Now we want to restore it for good.
We have a plan agreed with the local forestry office, including native species selected by a local botanist.
The area floods more each year, and fish have returned for the first time in a decade after our first cleanup. Restoring it will protect homes and bring back shade.
All the labor is volunteered. We just need materials.
We'll post planting day photos and a count of every sapling planted.
Where the $2,850 goes:
• Waste removal and skip hire: $780
• Tools and protective gear: $610
• Native saplings and stakes: $1,460
You're what makes this possible, and I'll never forget it.

Good news. Because of your gifts ($310 in total) I made the first payment toward native saplings and stakes. Still a way to go but it feels less lonely.
We're at 9% thanks to 3 of you. the plan for tools and protective gear is now scheduled. More news soon.
