Plant 1,950 native trees around the Jacaranda hillside in Oakland
A neighborhood-led restoration of the Jacaranda hillside needs $2,000 for saplings and equipment.
🇺🇸 California, United States807 views
The Jacaranda hillside has been used as an informal dump for years. This January, 43 neighbors turned up for a first cleanup, filling 110 bags in a single morning. Now we want to restore it for good.
We have a plan agreed with the local forestry office, including native species selected by a local botanist.
The area floods more each year, and fish have returned for the first time in a decade after our first cleanup. Restoring it will protect homes and bring back shade.
All the labor is volunteered. We just need materials.
Funds buy saplings, gloves, bags, hire of a skip, and signage.
Where the $2,000 goes:
• Waste removal and skip hire: $460
• Native saplings and stakes: $1,250
• Signage and educational materials: $290
Even a small gift gets used right away and I'll thank you myself.

Is there a list of costs somewhere? Just curious how it adds up for Josephine
Thanks for sharing this, Josephine. Hope this works out for you. We lost years of savings to something like this so I get it. Blessings
