Plant 1,500 native trees around the Pioneer wetland in Duque de Caxias
A neighborhood-led restoration of the Pioneer wetland needs $550 for saplings and equipment.
🇧🇷 Brazil321 views
The Pioneer wetland has been used as an informal dump for years. This November, 42 neighbors turned up for a first cleanup, filling 105 bags in a single morning. Now we want to restore it for good.
We have a plan agreed with the municipal water board, including native species selected by a local botanist.
The area floods more each year, and fish have returned for the first time in a decade after our first cleanup. Restoring it will protect homes and bring back shade.
All the labor is volunteered. We just need materials.
We'll post planting day photos and a count of every sapling planted.
Where the $550 goes:
• Waste removal and skip hire: $220
• Native saplings and stakes: $270
• Signage and educational materials: $60

You're not alone. Projects like this are what make a place worth living in. Sent it to 8 people at work.
So sorry you're going through this, Davi. This could happen to any of us. God bless.
