Plant 1,500 native trees around the Baobab wetland in Raleigh
A neighborhood-led restoration of the Baobab wetland needs $2,750 for saplings and equipment.
🇺🇸 Raleigh, North Carolina, United States1,871 views
The Baobab wetland has been used as an informal dump for years. This August, 90 neighbors turned up for a first cleanup, filling 141 bags in a single morning. Now we want to restore it for good.
We have a plan agreed with the district council, including native species selected by a local botanist.
The area floods more each year, and fish have returned for the first time in a decade after our first cleanup. Restoring it will protect homes and bring back shade.
All the labor is volunteered. We just need materials.
Funds buy saplings, gloves, bags, hire of a skip, and signage.
Where the $2,750 goes:
• Native saplings and stakes: $1,500
• Tools and protective gear: $460
• Waste removal and skip hire: $640
• Signage and educational materials: $150

Wishing you the best. More neighborhoods should do this. Don't lose heart. A few weeks ago I was in a hole too and it changed faster than I expected.
Thinking of you and your family. I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier. My mother had a similar thing happen so this one hit home. Thinking of Raleigh.
Rooting for you, Greyson. Projects like this are what make a place worth living in. I'll check back for the next update.
Praying for you. Great idea, hope you get there. God bless!
hope the build day goes well, wish I lived closer. We had a similar scare last year, I know what it feels like. Greetings from Birmingham.
