Oakland
Sycamore Beach has been used as an informal dump for years. This May, 93 neighbors turned up for a first cleanup, filling 142 bags in a single morning. Now we want to restore it for good. We have a plan agreed with the local forestry office, including native species selected by a local botanist. The area floods more each year, and fish have returned for the first time in a decade after our first cleanup. Restoring it will protect homes and bring back shade. All the labor is volunteered. We just need materials. Funds buy saplings, gloves, bags, hire of a skip, and signage. Where the $2,400 goes: • Native saplings and stakes: $1,000 • Tools and protective gear: $550 • Waste removal and skip hire: $640 • Signage and educational materials: $210 Glad we found this place.

Updates from Trisha

  1. Quick update: $927 raised so far (39%). I met with the nursery and confirmed the amounts. Receipts coming as soon as I have them.

  2. Thank you all. We're at 13% now ($318). I'm honestly stunned. the first invoice got paid this week.

  3. Good news. Because of your gifts ($190 in total) we've booked the dates and paid the deposit. Still a way to go but it feels less lonely.
