Plant 1,100 native trees around the Lotus riverbank in Mumbai
Volunteers are restoring the Lotus riverbank in Mumbai; $200 covers saplings, tools and waste removal.
🇮🇳 Maharashtra, India981 views
The Lotus riverbank has been used as an informal dump for years. This August, 59 neighbors turned up for a first cleanup, filling 98 bags in a single morning. Now we want to restore it for good.
We have a plan agreed with the city parks department, including native species selected by a local botanist.
The area floods more each year, and fish have returned for the first time in a decade after our first cleanup. Restoring it will protect homes and bring back shade.
All the labor is volunteered. We just need materials.
Funds buy saplings, gloves, bags, hire of a skip, and signage.
Where the $200 goes:
• Tools and protective gear: $90
• Signage and educational materials: $30
• Waste removal and skip hire: $80

Is there a list of costs somewhere? Just curious how it adds up for Darshan
The list at the bottom is the whole picture. tools and protective gear is the biggest at $90. Thanks for looking so closely.
it takes guts to ask. Well done. My husband and I read this together. Thinking of Mumbai.
Projects like this are what make a place worth living in. Sent it to 17 people at work. Love from Pune.
Sending good thoughts. Hope the build day goes well, wish I lived closer. My late mom used to say help given quietly counts double. All the best.
