I live with low vision from retinitis pigmentosa. My occupational therapist at Accra General Hospital has assessed me and recommended a powered wheelchair. The public scheme doesn't cover it, and the quote from the supplier is $1,200.
My current equipment is 13 years old and keeps breaking, which has confined me to home for 4 weeks.
With the right equipment I could speak with the people around him. It would change my everyday life and my ability to work from home.
We've applied to two charities already and received small contributions; this campaign covers the rest.
I'll pay the supplier directly from the funds, and I'll post a photo once the equipment is delivered.
Where the $1,200 goes:
• powered wheelchair: $1,100
• Fitting and training sessions: $40
• Delivery and set-up: $30
• First-year servicing plan: $30
