Palate reconstruction surgery for Wayne: covering what insurance won't
After a benign brain tumor, Wayne was cleared for palate reconstruction surgery, but the bill is more than we can manage.

In August I was diagnosed with a benign brain tumor. My surgeon at Johannesburg General Hospital recommended palate reconstruction surgery, and I have been placed on the schedule for November. The hospital's financial office gave me a written estimate of $2,400, and after what the government subsidy will pay, I'm still $1,200 short.
Doctors at Johannesburg General Hospital told me a benign brain tumor will get worse without palate reconstruction surgery. I work as a retail assistant, and I have saved what I can, but the estimate of $2,400 is far beyond what I've.
Until the surgery I can't work full days, and my hours as a retail assistant have already been cut. Every week of waiting means more pain and a bigger risk.
Recovery is expected to take about 12 weeks. I'll not be able to work a full shift during that time, so this has become a financial emergency as well as a medical one.
