Palate reconstruction surgery for Thiago: covering what insurance won't
After a hernia that has become strangulated, Thiago was cleared for palate reconstruction surgery, but the bill is more than we can manage.

In December I was diagnosed with a hernia that has become strangulated. My surgeon at Rio de Janeiro Community Hospital recommended palate reconstruction surgery, and I have been placed on the schedule for March. The hospital's financial office gave me a written estimate of $1,950, and after what the government subsidy will pay, I'm still $1,450 short.
Doctors at Rio de Janeiro Community Hospital told me a hernia that has become strangulated will get worse without palate reconstruction surgery. I work as a security guard, and I have saved what I can, but the estimate of $1,950 is far beyond what I've.
Until the surgery I can't work full days, and my hours as a security guard have already been cut. Every week of waiting means more pain and a bigger risk.
The recovery period is expected to take about 8 weeks. I'll not be able to walk without help during that time, so this has become a financial emergency as well as a medical one.
The money goes straight to the treatment bills, and I'll share the invoices as they're paid so you can see exactly what your gift did.
Where the $1,450 goes:
• Hospital stay (4 nights): $390
• Surgeon and anesthesia fees: $910
• Pre-operative tests and imaging: $150
I hope life is good to you.

Good luck, Thiago. I hope things turn around soon.
wishing you peace. It takes guts to ask. Well done. Thinking of Rio de Janeiro.
Thanks for sharing this, Thiago. This could happen to any of us. My late mom used to say help given quietly counts double. Blessings.
Hope things get better soon, Thiago. Reading this made my day a bit heavier but I'm glad I did. We're a small family in Thủ Đức but we're thinking of you. Take care.
