Mumbai
Komal was diagnosed with severe cataracts in both eyes in July. The surgeon at Mumbai University Hospital recommended palate reconstruction surgery, and She is scheduled for November. The hospital's financial office gave us a written estimate of $270, and after what the government subsidy will pay we're still $200 short. my wife has been in and out of Mumbai University Hospital since July. The doctors say severe cataracts in both eyes will get worse without palate reconstruction surgery. We have emptied our savings and borrowed from relatives, but the estimate of $270 is more than we can find. While we wait, Komal struggles with daily life and can't stand for more than ten minutes. Her family has taken turns caring for her, and I've cut my own work hours to be there. The recovery period is expected to take about 6 weeks. During that time Komal won't be able to stand for more than ten minutes, so the costs keep growing. I'll pay the hospital and pharmacy directly and post every receipt in the updates section. Where the $200 goes: • Post-operative medication: $65 • Travel and lodging for the family: $60 • Physiotherapy sessions: $75 Thanks for reading all this. - Mehul

Sharing the link is the biggest thing. And if you know anything about post-operative medication, advice is welcome too. Appreciate you taking the time.

      • keep going. Shared this with my family. After 19 years in social work I know how hard it's to ask for anything.

        • Wishing you the best, Mehul. Shared it with a few friends. I told my book club about it and three of them are giving too. Take care.

                • stay strong, Mehul. Shared it with a few friends. My late mom used to say help given quietly counts double.
