Palate reconstruction surgery for Francois: covering what insurance won't
A scheduled palate reconstruction surgery in February is out of reach without help covering $300 of the cost.

Francois was diagnosed with a thyroid nodule that needs removal in December. The surgeon at Durban University Hospital recommended palate reconstruction surgery, and He is scheduled for February. The hospital's financial office gave us a written estimate of $380, and after what my employer's plan will pay we're still $300 short.
my husband has been in and out of Durban University Hospital since December. The doctors say a thyroid nodule that needs removal will get worse without palate reconstruction surgery. We have emptied our savings and borrowed from relatives, but the estimate of $380 is more than we can find.
While we wait, Francois struggles with daily life and can't look after the children alone. His family has taken turns caring for him, and I've cut my own work hours to be there.
Rehabilitation is expected to take about 7 weeks. During that time Francois won't be able to look after the children alone, so the costs keep growing.
I'll pay the hospital and pharmacy directly and post every receipt in the updates section.
Where the $300 goes:
• Post-operative medication: $75
• Physiotherapy sessions: $175
• Pre-operative tests and imaging: $50
