I'm the first person in my family to go to university. I'm studying a degree in civil engineering at Riverside Community College, and I'm one term away from graduating. I have worked as a tutor to pay my way, but this term my hours were cut and I have an unpaid balance of $3,750.
The registrar has told me I can't enroll for the next term until the balance is cleared. I have a 3.6 average, and my professor has written in support of my application for a payment plan.
Graduating means a stable job and the chance to support my younger siblings. Without enrolling this term I'd lose my place and my scholarship eligibility.
I'm not asking for a handout - I want to finish what I started and then help the next student.
The payment will go directly to the Riverside Community College bursar's office. I'll post the receipt.
Where the $3,750 goes:
• Textbooks and materials: $250
• Outstanding tuition balance: $2,550
• Final term tuition: $950

Stay strong, Walter. Good luck with the exams, you've got this
Thinking of you, Walter. It takes guts to ask. Well done!
Good luck. Reading this made my day a bit heavier but I'm glad I did. My daughter saw me on my phone and now she wants to give her pocket money.
