Usha is the first person in the family to go to university. She is studying an electrical engineering diploma at Thane Polytechnic, and is two terms away from graduating. She has worked as a library assistant to pay the way, but this term the hours were cut and there's an unpaid balance of $500. The registrar has said Usha can't enroll for the next term until the balance is cleared. Usha has a 3.8 average, and a professor has written in support. Graduating means a stable job and the chance to support the younger siblings. Without enrolling this term Usha would lose her place and scholarship eligibility. Usha isn't asking for a handout - She wants to finish what She started and help the next student. The payment will go directly to the Thane Polytechnic bursar's office. I'll post the receipt. Where the $500 goes: • Outstanding tuition balance: $430 • Textbooks and materials: $40 • Exam and lab fees: $30 Glad we found this place. - Kavita

  • Hope things get better soon, Kavita. It takes guts to ask. Well done. Put this on a community board in Hawassa this morning. Thinking of Thane.

good luck. I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier. Sent it to 20 people at work. All the best.
