Lucy is the first person in the family to go to university. She is studying a degree in social work at Nairobi State College, and is two terms away from graduating. She has worked as a night-shift cleaner to pay the way, but this term the hours were cut and there's an unpaid balance of $300. The registrar has said Lucy can't enroll for the next term until the balance is cleared. Lucy has a distinction average, and a professor has written in support. Graduating means a stable job and the chance to support the younger siblings. Without enrolling this term Lucy would lose her place and scholarship eligibility.
