Lorena is the first person in the family to go to university. She is studying a degree in civil engineering at Ribeirão Preto University, and is one semester away from graduating. She has worked as a tutor to pay the way, but this term the hours were cut and there's an unpaid balance of $1,450.
The registrar has said Lorena can't enroll for the next term until the balance is cleared. Lorena has a 3.8 average, and an academic advisor has written in support.
Graduating means a stable job and the chance to support the younger siblings. Without enrolling this term Lorena would lose her place and scholarship eligibility.
Lorena isn't asking for a handout - She wants to finish what She started and help the next student.
Everything raised goes to the university's accounts office toward the outstanding balance and the final term's fees.
Where the $1,450 goes:
• Outstanding tuition balance: $880
• Final term tuition: $490
• Exam and lab fees: $45
• Textbooks and materials: $35

I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier. Thinking of Ribeirão Preto.
hope things get better soon, Isabela. I hope things turn around soon. We lost years of savings to something like this so I get it. Take care.
