Lagos

I'm the first person in my family to go to university. I'm studying a master's in public health at the Lagos Institute of Technology, and I'm one semester away from graduating. I have worked as a tutor to pay my way, but this term my hours were cut and I have an unpaid balance of $700. The registrar has told me I can't enroll for the next term until the balance is cleared. I have a 3.6 average, and my professor has written in support of my application for a payment plan. Graduating means a stable job and the chance to support my younger siblings. Without enrolling this term I'd lose my place and my scholarship eligibility. I'm not asking for a handout - I want to finish what I started and then help the next student. The payment will go directly to the the Lagos Institute of Technology bursar's office. I'll post the receipt. Where the $700 goes: • Outstanding tuition balance: $230 • Final term tuition: $430 • Exam and lab fees: $35 • Textbooks and materials: $5 Thank you for reading my story. - Idowu

Rooting for you, Idowu. I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier. Don't be hard on yourself for asking. Greetings from Madina
