Gerardo is the first person in the family to go to university. He is studying a degree in civil engineering at Mar del Plata Community College, and is two terms away from graduating. He has worked as a delivery rider to pay the way, but this term the hours were cut and there's an unpaid balance of $1,000.
The registrar has said Gerardo can't enroll for the next term until the balance is cleared. Gerardo has a 3.9 average, and an academic advisor has written in support.
Graduating means a stable job and the chance to support the younger siblings. Without enrolling this term Gerardo would lose his place and scholarship eligibility.
Gerardo isn't asking for a handout - He wants to finish what He started and help the next student.
Everything raised goes to the university's accounts office toward the outstanding balance and the final term's fees.
Where the $1,000 goes:
• Final term tuition: $310
• Outstanding tuition balance: $630
• Textbooks and materials: $60
