I'm the first person in my family to go to university. I'm studying a degree in social work at Kakamega State College, and I'm two terms away from graduating. I have worked as a library assistant to pay my way, but this term my hours were cut and I have an unpaid balance of $550.
The registrar has told me I can't enroll for the next term until the balance is cleared. I have a first-class average, and my academic advisor has written in support of my application for a payment plan.
Graduating means a stable job and the chance to support my younger siblings. Without enrolling this term I'd lose my place and my scholarship eligibility.
I'm not asking for a handout - I want to finish what I started and then help the next student.
The payment will go directly to the Kakamega State College bursar's office. I'll post the receipt.
Where the $550 goes:
• Final term tuition: $290
• Textbooks and materials: $25
• Outstanding tuition balance: $235
I hope life is good to you.

Hope it all works out, Fatuma. Reading this made my day a bit heavier but I'm glad I did. The breakdown of costs made it easy to trust.
is there a list of costs somewhere? Just curious how it adds up for Fatuma
Everything on the list is an amount I've been quoted or invoiced. final term tuition comes first ($290) and I'll update the page as each thing gets paid. Thanks for asking.
hope things get better soon. Shared it with a few friends. I hope November is when things finally get easier. Thinking of Kakamega
