Bennett is the first person in the family to go to university. He is studying a diploma in hospitality management at Wellington State College, and is two terms away from graduating. He has worked as a library assistant to pay the way, but this term the hours were cut and there's an unpaid balance of $3,200. The registrar has said Bennett can't enroll for the next term until the balance is cleared. Bennett has a distinction average, and a department head has written in support. Graduating means a stable job and the chance to support the younger siblings. Without enrolling this term Bennett would lose his place and scholarship eligibility.
