Nokuthula was diagnosed with endometriosis requiring surgery in December. The surgeon at Saint Luke Hospital recommended emergency hernia repair, and She is scheduled for March. The hospital's financial office gave us a written estimate of $2,150, and after what my insurance will pay we're still $1,600 short. my wife has been in and out of Saint Luke Hospital since December. The doctors say endometriosis requiring surgery will get worse without emergency hernia repair. We have emptied our savings and borrowed from relatives, but the estimate of $2,150 is more than we can find. While we wait, Nokuthula struggles with daily life and can't walk without help. Her family has taken turns caring for her, and I've cut my own work hours to be there. Recovery is expected to take about 10 weeks. During that time Nokuthula won't be able to walk without help, so the costs keep growing. I'll pay the hospital and pharmacy directly and post every receipt in the updates section. Where the $1,600 goes: • Surgeon and anesthesia fees: $840 • Physiotherapy sessions: $160 • Hospital stay (3 nights): $440 • Travel and lodging for the family: $120 • Post-operative medication: $40 I'll keep this page updated with receipts as things happen.
