My taxi: Selam's only way to earn a living
Selam drives for a living in Addis Ababa, and a broken gearbox has stopped all income for 8 weeks.

I make my living with my taxi. 8 weeks ago the gearbox failed, and the mechanic says the repair will cost $200. Without the vehicle I earn nothing.
I have been borrowing from friends to pay rent, and now I have run out of people to ask.
I support my younger brothers and sisters. Before the breakdown I worked twelve hours a day, six days a week. I have been offered extra shifts for the next six months if I can just get the vehicle working.
I have a written estimate from a certified mechanic and will upload it here.
All money will go toward the parts and labor on the estimate, with a small amount for road tax and insurance renewal.
Where the $200 goes:
• gearbox replacement (parts): $140
• Road tax and insurance renewal: $30
• Labor charges: $30
Every share and every dollar helps.

is there a list of costs somewhere? Just curious how it adds up for Selam.
Gearbox replacement (parts) is $140 of it. Everything else is listed in the story and nothing outside that list comes out of this page. I'll keep the page updated.
good luck. This could happen to any of us. We lost years of savings to something like this so I get it. Love from Badagry.
is there anything that isn't money that would help Selam?
hang in there. This could happen to any of us. My late mom used to say help given quietly counts double.
Your post was clear and honest. My husband and I read this together. Love from Springfield.
