Cape Town
I live with low vision from retinitis pigmentosa. My occupational therapist at the Cape Town Mobility Clinic has assessed me and recommended a stair-climbing aid. The public scheme doesn't cover it, and the quote from the supplier is $1,550. My current equipment is 11 years old and keeps breaking, which has confined me to home for 4 weeks. With the right equipment I could speak with the people around him. It would change my everyday life and my ability to work from home. We've applied to two charities already and received small contributions; this campaign covers the rest. Funds go toward the equipment, delivery, fitting and a year of servicing. Where the $1,550 goes: • Fitting and training sessions: $55 • Delivery and set-up: $20 • stair-climbing aid: $1,475 Ask me anything below before you decide. I'd rather you were sure.

Wishing you the best, Gerhard. I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier. My colleague had a similar thing happen so this one hit home. Thinking of Cape Town

    • Wishing Gerhard a smooth procedure and a full recovery.
