I live with low vision from retinitis pigmentosa. My occupational therapist at the Recife Mobility Clinic has assessed me and recommended a powered wheelchair. The public scheme doesn't cover it, and the quote from the supplier is $2,350.
My current equipment is 10 years old and keeps breaking, which has confined me to home for 3 weeks.
With the right equipment I could attend work interviews. It would change my everyday life and my ability to work from home.
We've applied to two charities already and received small contributions; this campaign covers the rest.
Funds go toward the equipment, delivery, fitting and a year of servicing.
Where the $2,350 goes:
• powered wheelchair: $2,100
• Fitting and training sessions: $105
• Delivery and set-up: $60
• First-year servicing plan: $85
