I live with multiple sclerosis. My occupational therapist at the Toronto Rehabilitation Centre has assessed me and recommended a cochlear implant processor upgrade. The public scheme doesn't cover it, and the quote from the supplier is $7,950.
My current equipment is 8 years old and keeps breaking, which has confined me to home for 8 weeks.
With the right equipment I could get to the shops and visit friends. It would change my everyday life and my ability to work from home.
We've applied to two charities already and received small contributions; this campaign covers the rest.
Funds go toward the equipment, delivery, fitting and a year of servicing.
Where the $7,950 goes:
• cochlear implant processor upgrade: $7,500
• Fitting and training sessions: $200
• Delivery and set-up: $90
• First-year servicing plan: $160
