Mobility fund: cochlear implant processor upgrade for Alejandro in Medellín
Alejandro needs a cochlear implant processor upgrade that the health system won't fund; the cost is $150.
🇨🇴 Colombia447 views
Alejandro lives with muscular dystrophy. The occupational therapist at the Medellín Mobility Clinic has assessed him and recommended a cochlear implant processor upgrade. The public scheme doesn't cover it, and the quote from the supplier is $150.
His current equipment is 10 years old and keeps breaking, which has confined him to home for 6 weeks.
With the right equipment Alejandro could go to school independently. It would change everyday life for the whole family.
We've applied to two charities already and received small contributions; this campaign covers the rest.
Funds go toward the equipment, delivery, fitting and a year of servicing.
Where the $150 goes:
• Fitting and training sessions: $35
• First-year servicing plan: $70
• Delivery and set-up: $45
With deep gratitude,
Gabriela

Thanks for sharing this, Gabriela. Looking forward to the next update. This is the second need I've supported on here and the first that made me cry.

Thank you. If you're in Medellín I'll say if something practical comes up. For now sharing this is great. Appreciate you taking the time.
Hope things get better soon, Gabriela. Look after yourselves too, caregivers need rest. I have a 10 year old who wants to send good wishes too.
