In July I was diagnosed with severe cataracts in both eyes. My surgeon at Saint Joseph Hospital recommended palate reconstruction surgery, and I have been placed on the schedule for September. The hospital's financial office gave me a written estimate of $10,750, and after what the government subsidy will pay, I'm still $5,350 short. Doctors at Saint Joseph Hospital told me severe cataracts in both eyes will get worse without palate reconstruction surgery. I work as a warehouse packer, and I have saved what I can, but the estimate of $10,750 is far beyond what I've. Until the surgery I can't work full days, and my hours as a warehouse packer have already been cut. Every week of waiting means more pain and a bigger risk. Rehabilitation is expected to take about 8 weeks. I'll not be able to drive during that time, so this has become a financial emergency as well as a medical one. I'll pay the hospital and pharmacy directly and post every receipt in the updates section. Where the $5,350 goes: • Physiotherapy sessions: $250 • Hospital stay (3 nights): $1,400 • Post-operative medication: $280 • Pre-operative tests and imaging: $400 • Surgeon and anesthesia fees: $3,020 Thanks for reading all this.
