London
In February I was diagnosed with colon cancer. My oncology team at London University Hospital has planned 12 rounds of treatment, and the first starts in May. I was told to expect about 12 weeks away from work. I never imagined I'd be writing something like this. I'm 45, I worked as a tailor until February, and I have been the main earner for my household. Treatment is covered only in part. Medication that isn't on the approved list, transport to London University Hospital 5 times a week, and the income I have lost add up quickly. My family is doing everything they can, but we've already sold what we could and are borrowing for groceries. Funds will be used only for treatment, medication, transport to appointments and essential living costs during treatment. Where the $12,050 goes: • Chemotherapy and medication not covered: $7,500 • Scans and lab work: $800 • Transport to London University Hospital: $890 • Nutrition and supplements prescribed by the care team: $730 • Household costs while unable to work: $2,130 I'll pay this kindness forward the moment I'm able to.
