Marta is facing a rare sarcoma and the cost of treatment, travel and care at home is far beyond what the family can cover.

In August I was diagnosed with a rare sarcoma. My oncology team at Bronx University Hospital has planned 12 rounds of treatment, and the first starts in October. I was told to expect about 5 weeks away from work.
I never imagined I'd be writing something like this. I'm 49, I worked as a cleaner at a hospital until August, and I have been the main earner for my household.
Treatment is covered only in part. Medication that isn't on the approved list, transport to Bronx University Hospital 4 times a week, and the income I have lost add up quickly.
My family is doing everything they can, but we've already sold what we could and are borrowing for groceries.
Funds will be used only for treatment, medication, transport to appointments and essential living costs during treatment.
Where the $7,100 goes:
• Chemotherapy and medication not covered: $3,800
• Scans and lab work: $810
• Transport to Bronx University Hospital: $930
• Nutrition and supplements prescribed by the care team: $390
• Household costs while unable to work: $1,170
