Maricel was diagnosed with a cleft palate needing repair in March. The surgeon at Quezon City Orthopedic Institute recommended cataract surgery, and She is scheduled for May. The hospital's financial office gave us a written estimate of $1,500, and after what my employer's plan will pay we're still $750 short. my daughter has been in and out of Quezon City Orthopedic Institute since March. The doctors say a cleft palate needing repair will get worse without cataract surgery. We have emptied our savings and borrowed from relatives, but the estimate of $1,500 is more than we can find. While we wait, Maricel struggles with daily life and can't look after the children alone. Her family has taken turns caring for her, and I've cut my own work hours to be there. Rehabilitation is expected to take about 6 weeks. During that time Maricel won't be able to look after the children alone, so the costs keep growing.
