Malak was diagnosed with a hip fracture that never healed properly in October. The surgeon at Bakersfield Regional Medical Center recommended cataract surgery, and She is scheduled for January. The hospital's financial office gave us a written estimate of $11,500, and after what my employer's plan will pay we're still $5,700 short.
my wife has been in and out of Bakersfield Regional Medical Center since October. The doctors say a hip fracture that never healed properly will get worse without cataract surgery. We have emptied our savings and borrowed from relatives, but the estimate of $11,500 is more than we can find.
While we wait, Malak struggles with daily life and can't look after the children alone. Her family has taken turns caring for her, and I've cut my own work hours to be there.
The recovery period is expected to take about 6 weeks. During that time Malak won't be able to look after the children alone, so the costs keep growing.

It's all in the list in the story. hospital stay (5 nights) is the big one at $2,400, I'll post a receipt when it's paid. Good question.
