The heatwave hit the Greenfield district on 16 February. My home was one of 72 damaged, and 5 families are still in temporary shelter at the local school gym. The first few days we shared what little we had. Now the cleanup has started, but we've no money for materials and winter or the rainy season is coming. Schools in the area have been closed, and the clinic lost its cold storage for vaccines. We're a small community of working families who have never asked for help before. We have formed a volunteer committee, and I'm the treasurer, so I'll post receipts for everything we buy. Funds go to building materials, water purification supplies, bedding, and food for families still in shelters. Where the $1,100 goes: • Tools and labor for repairs: $250 • Bedding, blankets and mattresses: $200 • Roofing sheets and timber: $650 I never thought I'd be the one asking, and I'm grateful for every bit of support.

  • So sorry you're going through this, Shivam. Your post was clear and honest. My late mom used to say help given quietly counts double. Thinking of Madurai.

    • Hang in there, Shivam. More neighborhoods should do this. Don't be hard on yourself for asking.

      • Sending good thoughts, Shivam. Looking forward to the next update. Wish I lived closer to Irapuato so I could bring a meal.
