Madhavan's emergency hernia repair can't wait - please help us cover the bill
Madhavan needs emergency hernia repair at Mumbai General Hospital and the family is $1,100 short of the hospital's estimate.

In September I was diagnosed with gallstones with repeated infections. My surgeon at Mumbai General Hospital recommended emergency hernia repair, and I have been placed on the schedule for October. The hospital's financial office gave me a written estimate of $1,400, and after what my employer's plan will pay, I'm still $1,100 short.
Doctors at Mumbai General Hospital told me gallstones with repeated infections will get worse without emergency hernia repair. I work as a seamstress, and I have saved what I can, but the estimate of $1,400 is far beyond what I've.
Until the surgery I can't work full days, and my hours as a seamstress have already been cut. Every week of waiting means more pain and a bigger risk.
The recovery period is expected to take about 10 weeks. I'll not be able to stand for more than ten minutes during that time, so this has become a financial emergency as well as a medical one.
I'll pay the hospital and pharmacy directly and post every receipt in the updates section.
Where the $1,100 goes:
• Surgeon and anesthesia fees: $560
• Hospital stay (5 nights): $240
• Pre-operative tests and imaging: $115
• Post-operative medication: $25
• Physiotherapy sessions: $100
• Travel and lodging for the family: $60
Thanks for reading all this.
