Lupe's valve repair surgery can't wait - please help us cover the bill
Lupe needs valve repair surgery at Saint Elizabeth Hospital and the family is $4,800 short of the hospital's estimate.

In June I was diagnosed with a herniated spinal disc. My surgeon at Saint Elizabeth Hospital recommended valve repair surgery, and I have been placed on the schedule for September. The hospital's financial office gave me a written estimate of $9,500, and after what the government subsidy will pay, I'm still $4,800 short.
Doctors at Saint Elizabeth Hospital told me a herniated spinal disc will get worse without valve repair surgery. I work as a call-centre agent, and I have saved what I can, but the estimate of $9,500 is far beyond what I've.
Until the surgery I can't work full days, and my hours as a call-centre agent have already been cut. Every week of waiting means more pain and a bigger risk.
The recovery period is expected to take about 3 weeks. I'll not be able to look after the children alone during that time, so this has become a financial emergency as well as a medical one.
I'll pay the hospital and pharmacy directly and post every receipt in the updates section.
Where the $4,800 goes:
• Surgeon and anesthesia fees: $1,800
• Hospital stay (5 nights): $1,800
• Pre-operative tests and imaging: $220
• Post-operative medication: $270
• Physiotherapy sessions: $530
• Travel and lodging for the family: $180
