In February I was diagnosed with prostate cancer. My oncology team at the Yonkers Oncology Institute has planned 4 rounds of treatment, and the first starts in April. I was told to expect about 4 weeks away from work.
I never imagined I'd be writing something like this. I'm 50, I worked as a taxi driver until February, and I have been the main earner for my household.
Treatment is covered only in part. Medication that isn't on the approved list, transport to the Yonkers Oncology Institute 5 times a week, and the income I have lost add up quickly.
My family is doing everything they can, but we've already sold what we could and are borrowing for groceries.
Funds will be used only for treatment, medication, transport to appointments and essential living costs during treatment.
Where the $11,050 goes:
• Chemotherapy and medication not covered: $7,500
• Scans and lab work: $1,300
• Transport to the Yonkers Oncology Institute: $610
• Nutrition and supplements prescribed by the care team: $750
• Household costs while unable to work: $890

Everything on the list is an amount I've been quoted or invoiced. chemotherapy and medication not covered comes first ($7,500) and I'll update the page as each thing gets paid. Let me know if you want more detail.
