I live with cerebral palsy. My occupational therapist at the Los Angeles Rehabilitation Centre has assessed me and recommended a cochlear implant processor upgrade. The public scheme doesn't cover it, and the quote from the supplier is $6,950. My current equipment is 10 years old and keeps breaking, which has confined me to home for 7 weeks. With the right equipment I could go to school independently. It would change my everyday life and my ability to work from home. We've applied to two charities already and received small contributions; this campaign covers the rest. Funds go toward the equipment, delivery, fitting and a year of servicing. Where the $6,950 goes: • cochlear implant processor upgrade: $6,000 • Fitting and training sessions: $440 • Delivery and set-up: $105 • First-year servicing plan: $405 Glad we found this place.
