Liya's a rare sarcoma treatment fund
Liya is facing a rare sarcoma and the cost of treatment, travel and care at home is far beyond what the family can cover.
Anywhere in the world1,114 views
Liya was diagnosed with a rare sarcoma in July. The oncology team at the Hawassa Oncology Institute has planned 8 rounds of treatment, starting in September. She will be away from work for about 3 weeks.
Liya is 49, worked as a bank teller until July, and has always been the one who looks after everyone else. Now it's our turn to look after her.
Treatment is covered only in part. Medication that isn't on the approved list, trips to the Hawassa Oncology Institute 2 times a week, and the income the family has lost add up quickly.
We've already sold what we could and have begun borrowing for groceries. Every kindness from you takes weight off her shoulders.
Funds will be used only for treatment, medication, transport to appointments and essential living costs during treatment.
Where the $1,200 goes:
• Nutrition and supplements prescribed by the care team: $75
• Transport to the Hawassa Oncology Institute: $135
• Chemotherapy and medication not covered: $990
Even a small gift gets used right away and I'll thank you myself.

is there a list of costs somewhere? Just curious how it adds up for Liya
Nutrition and supplements prescribed by the care team is $75 of it. Everything else is listed in the story and nothing outside that list comes out of this page. Fair thing to want to know.
Thinking of you and your family, Mekonnen. Look after yourselves too, caregivers need rest. Take care.
Shared this with my family. We lost years of savings to something like this so I get it. Thinking of Hawassa.
