Let's build a solar-powered water pump together in San Jose
A community-led a solar-powered water pump at Pioneer Park that will serve 181 neighbors.
🇺🇸 San Jose, California, United States470 views
For twelve years the neighborhood has asked for a solar-powered water pump. This year a group of 20 volunteers, including a retired civil engineer, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for Pioneer Park, but no funding.
We have received donated volunteer hours worth about $450, and the remaining cost is $4,350.
It will serve about 181 people, including children, seniors and people with disabilities. We'll hold a build day in November and everyone is invited.
We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos.
All purchases will be made by two volunteers and logged publicly. Surplus funds will go to maintenance.
Where the $4,350 goes:
• Materials: $3,450
• Permits and inspections: $195
• Safety equipment and signage: $410
• Tools hire and delivery: $295
