Let's build a sensory garden for children with autism together in Durham
A community-led a sensory garden for children with autism at the Lotus vacant lot that will serve 486 neighbors.

For twelve years the neighborhood has asked for a sensory garden for children with autism. This year a group of 9 volunteers, including a group of teenagers, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the Lotus vacant lot, but no funding.
We have received donated tools, and the remaining cost is $2,450.
It will serve about 486 people, including local farmers and market traders. We'll hold a build day in February and everyone is invited.
We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos.
All purchases will be made by two volunteers and logged publicly. Surplus funds will go to maintenance.
Where the $2,450 goes:
• Materials: $1,700
• Permits and inspections: $175
• Safety equipment and signage: $390
• Tools hire and delivery: $185
