For twelve years the neighborhood has asked for a repair café workshop. This year a group of 29 volunteers, including local mothers, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the Acacia health centre yard, but no funding.
We have received donated volunteer hours worth about $1,450, and the remaining cost is $3,100.
It will serve about 394 people, including school children and their families. We'll hold a build day in October and everyone is invited.
We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos.
Funds are spent only on materials, permits and safety equipment; all labor is volunteered.
Where the $3,100 goes:
• Materials: $1,850
• Permits and inspections: $210
• Safety equipment and signage: $400
• Tools hire and delivery: $640
Even a small gift gets used right away and I'll thank you myself.

Wishing you the best. Your post was clear and honest. It's not much but it's yours. Greetings from Karachi.
Hope it all works out. Projects like this are what make a place worth living in. Read this on the bus and kept thinking about it all day. God bless.
Great idea, hope you get there. After 21 years in nursing I know how hard it's to ask for anything!
Projects like this are what make a place worth living in. Wish I lived closer to Bakersfield so I could bring a meal.
Hang in there. Reading this made my day a bit heavier but I'm glad I did. Greetings from Aberdeen
